First Sunday of Advent Year B - November 27, 2011

November 27, 2011
First Sunday of Advent - Year B
5:30 pm Novena to Our Lady
6:00 pm Mass in English

First Reading:
ISAIAH 63:16-17; 19   64:2-7
A Prayer of Penitence

Doubtless you are Our Father, though Abraham was ignorant of us, and Israel does not acknowledge us.  You, O LORD, are our Father; Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your Name.  O LORD, why have You made us stray from Your ways, and hardened our heart from Your fear?  Return for Your servants' sake, the tribes of Your inheritance.  We have become like those of old, over whom You never ruled, those who were never called by Your name.
As fire burns brushwood, As fire causes water to boil - To make Your name known to Your adversaries, That the nations may tremble at Your presence!
When You did awesome things for which we did not look, You came down, The mountains shook at Your presence.

For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him.
You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, Who remembers You in Your ways.  You are indeed angry, for we have sinned - In these ways we continue; And we need to be saved.

But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities.

"The Word of the Lord"

Second Reading
1 Corinthians 1:3-9
Grace to you and peace fromGod our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Jesus Christ, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that yu may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

"The Word of the Lord"

Gospel Reading
MARK 13:33-37

Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.
It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming - in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning - lest coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.  And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!

LAST SUNDAY OF THE YEAR - NOVEMBER 20, 2011

Nov. 19 Saturday 2011
Solemnity of Christ The King (34th Sun of Ordinary Time) - Year A
5.30pm Novena to Our Lady
6.00pm Mass in English
Christ, The King
Christ is a King on the model of the homeric kings who called themselves "shepherds of the people".  As a royal shepherd He is leading us to the Kingdom of His Father.

First Reading        Ezekiel 34:11-12  15-17
GOD, THE TRUE SHEPHERD!

"For thus says the Lord GOD:  "Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out.  As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day.
"I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down," says the Lord GOD.
I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong, and feed them in judgment.
And as for you, O My flock, thes says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I shall judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and goats."

"The Word of the Lord"

Second Reading        1 Corinthians 15:20-26  28
THE LAST ENEMY DESTROYED

But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.
But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.
Then comes the end, when He delivers the Kingdom of God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.
For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.
The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

"The Word of the Lord"

Gospel Reading         Matthew 25:31-46
THE SON OF MAN WILL JUDGE THE NATIONS

When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.
Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?
When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?
And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
Then He will also say to those on the left hands, Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.
Then they also will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?'
Then He will answer them, saying, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.
And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

LET US PRAY FOR FR. ANTHONY NG LEE KIANG

Our heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ

"We praise You, Lord!"
"We love You, Lord!"
"We thank You, Lord!"

Father, in the name of Jesus, we come before You asking You to heal Fr. Anthony Ng Lee Kiang.  It is written that the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.  And if we have committed sins, we will be forgiven.  We let go of all unforgiveness, resentment, anger and bad feelings toward anyone.

Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, and we desire to be in good health.  We seek that which will make us free - both spiritual and natural.  You bought us at a price, and we desire to glorify You in our spirits and our bodies - they both belong to You.

Thank You, Father, for sending Your Word to heal Fr. Anthony Ng Lee Kiang and deliver us from all our destruction.  Jesus, You are the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us.  You bore our griefs (pains) and carried our sorrows (sickness).  You were pierced through for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities.  The chastening for our well being fell upon You, and by Your scourging we are healed.

Father, we give attention to Your words and incline our ear to Your sayings.  We will not let them depart from our sights but will keep them in the midst of our hearts, for they are our lives and health to our bodies.

Since the Spirit of Him Who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us, He Who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to our mortal bodies through His Spirit, Who dwells in us.

Thank You that we will prosper and be in good health, even as our souls prosper.

Amen!

33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time - November 13, 2011

November 12, 2011 Saturday
33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time - Year A
5.30pm Novena to Our Lady
6.00pm Mass in English

Christ, The Head Of His Household
Christ's family, the Church, today holds festival in honour of its Head, and brings to him the talents of a good wife, devoted sons, and faithful servants.

First Reading
Proverbs 31:10-13 19-20 30-31
A perfect wife - who can find her?

A perfect wife - who can find her?
She is far beyond the price of pearls.
Her husband's heart has confidence in her, from her he will derive no little profit.
Advantage and not hurt she brings him all the days of her life.

She is always busy wih wool and with flax, she does her work with eager hands.
She sets her hands to the distaff, her fingers grasp the spindle.  She holds out her hand to the poor, she opens her arms to the needy.  Charm is deceitful, and beauty empty, the woman who is wise is the one to praise.  Give her a share in what her hands have worked for, and let her works tell her praises at the city gates.

"The Word of the Lord"

Second Reading
1 Thessalonians 5:1-6
Let not the Day of the Lord overtake you like a thief.

You will not be expecting us to write anything to you, brothers, about "times and seasons", since you know very well that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.  It is when people are saying, "How quiet and peaceful it is" that the worst suddenly happens, as suddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there will be no way for anybody to evade it.

But it is not as if you live in the dark, my brothers, for that Day to overtake you like a thief.  No, you are all sons of light and darkness, so we should not go on sleeping , as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.

"The Word of the Lord"

Gospel
Matthew 25:14-30
You have been faithful in small things; come and join in your master's happiness.

Jesus spoke this parable to his disciples:  "The kingdom of heaven is like a man on his way abroad who summoned his servants and entrusted his property to them.  To one he gave five talents, to another two, to a third one; each in proportion to his ability.  Then he set out.

"The man who had received the five tlents promptly went and traded with them and made five more.  The man who had received two made two more in the same way.  But the man who had received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money."
Now a long time after, the master of those servants came back and went through his accounts with them.  The man who had received the five talents came forward bringing five more.  'Sir,' he said, 'you entrusted me with five talents; here are five more than I have made.'

"His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small things, I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness.'  Next the man with two talents came forward.  'Sir,' he said, 'you entrusted me with two talents: here are two more that I have made.'  His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small things, I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness.'  Last came forward the man who had the one talent.  'Sir,' said he, 'I had heard you were a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered; so I was afraid, and I went off and hid your talent in the ground.  Here it is, it was yours, you have it back.'  But his master answered him, 'You wicked and lazy servant!  So you knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered.  Well then, you have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have recovered my capital with interest.  So now, tke the talent from him and give it to the man who has the five talents.  For to everyone who has will be given more, and he will have than enough; but from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away.  As for this good-for-nothing servant, throw him out into the dark, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.

32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time - 06 November, 2011

Network For Communication

It is an ever more commonly held opinion that, just as the Industrial Revolution in its day brought about a profound transformation in society by the modifications it introduced into the cycles of production and the lives of workers, so today the radical changes taking place in communications are guiding significant cultural and social developments.

The new technologies are not only changing the way we communicate, but communication itself, so much so that it could be said that we are living through a period of vast cultural transformation.  This means of spreading information and knowledge is giving birth to a new way of learning and thinking, with unprecedented opportunities for establishing relationships and building fellowships.

New horizons are now open that were until recently unimaginable; they stir our wonders at the possibilities offered by these new media and, at the same time, urgently demand a serious reflection on the significance of communication in the digital age.  This is particularly evident when we are confronted with the extraordinary potential of the internet and the complexity of its uses.  As with every other fruit of human ingenuity, the new communications technologies must be placed at the service of the integral good of the individual and of the whole of humanity.  If used wisely, they can contribute to the satisfaction of the desire for meaning, truth and unity which remain the most profound aspirations of each human being.

In the digital world, transmitting information increasingly means making it know within a social network where knowledge is shared in the context of personal exchanges.  The clear distinction between the producer and consumer of information is relativized and communication appears not only as an exchange of data, but also as a form of sharing.  This dynamic has contributed to a new appreciation of communication itself, which is seen first of all as dialogue, exchange, solidarity and the creation of positive relations.  On the other hand, this is contrasted with the limits typical of digital communication: the one-sidedness of the interaction, the tendency to communicate only some parts of one's interior world, the risk of constructing a false image of oneself, which ca become a form of self-indulgence.

... to be continued next week ...
