First Reading
ISAIAH 50:4-7
I will not be disgraced

The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.  He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.  The Lord GOD has opened My ear and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away.  I gave My back to those who struck Me and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.  For the Lord GOD will help Me; therefore I will not be disgraced; therefore I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed.

PSALM 21:8-9, 17-20, 23-24
The Suffering, Praise, and Posterity of the Messiah

"He trusted" in the LORD, let Him rescue Him; let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!  But You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust while on My mother's breasts.  I can count all My bones.  They look and stare at Me.  They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots.  But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me! Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog.  You who fear the LORD, praise Him!  All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, and fear Him, all you offspring of Israel!  For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; nor has He hidden His face from Him; but when He cried to Him, He heard.

Second Reading
PHILIPPIANS 2:6-11
Emptying of Jesus

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father.

Gospel Reading
MARK 14:1-15, 47
Passion and Death

After two days it was the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.  And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take Him by trickery and put Him to death.  But they said, "Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar of the people."  And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabster flask of very costly oil of spikenard.  Then she broke the flask and pured it on His head.  But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, "Why was this fragrant oil wasted?  "For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor."  And they criticized here sharply.  But Jesus said, "Let her alone.  Why do you trouble her?  She has done a good work for Me.  "For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always.  "She has done what she could.  She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.  "Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."  Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them.  And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money.  So he souhgt how he might conveniently betray Him.  Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they killed the Passover lamb, His disciples said to Him, "Where do You want us to go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?"  And He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, "Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water, follow him.  "Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, "The Teacher says, "Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"  "Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us." And one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
